The 2026 International Symposium on Energy Science and Chemical Engineering Successfully Held in Maoming


On June 27, 2026, the 2026 International Symposium on Energy Science and Chemical Engineering (ISESCE 2026) was grandly held in Lecture Hall 1 of the Library at the Guandu Campus of Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology in Maoming, Guangdong Province. The symposium was hosted by Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology and organized by the School of Energy and Power Engineering, with co-sponsorship from Northeast Petroleum University, the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Safety for Petrochemical Equipment, and the School of Chemical Engineering of Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology. More than 200 experts, scholars, young faculty members, graduate students, and enterprise representatives from universities, research institutes, and industry in China and abroad gathered to engage in in-depth exchanges on cutting-edge topics such as energy transition, low-carbon technologies, and intelligent inspection, comprehensively showcasing the latest research achievements and engineering practices in the field of energy science and chemical engineering.

Opening Ceremony: Building Consensus and Discussing Development

The opening ceremony was hosted by Qian Wang, Dean of the School of Energy and Power Engineering at Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology.

Guoxi Sun, Vice President of Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology, delivered a welcome address at the opening ceremony. In his remarks, Vice President Sun extended a warm welcome to the attending experts and scholars and introduced the university’s profile as the only petroleum and petrochemical specialty university in South China. He stated that Maoming is accelerating its green and low-carbon energy transition by leveraging its petrochemical industry advantages, and expressed the hope that this symposium would serve as an opportunity to build a high-level international academic exchange platform, deepen cooperation in energy science and chemical engineering, and contribute wisdom and strength to global energy sustainability.

Keynote Presentations: Focusing on Frontiers and Leading the Direction

The symposium invited four renowned experts and scholars from China and abroad to deliver keynote presentations.

Guangsuo Yu, professor at East China University of Science and Technology, analyzed the challenges and opportunities facing modern coal chemical industry under the “dual carbon” goals, providing important insights for green transformation in the sector.

Mingming Zhang, professor at Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, showcased intelligent applications of multi-energy complementarity and system integration involving wind power, solar energy, and hydrogen energy.

Meirong Dong, professor at South China University of Technology, focused on intelligent sensing and condition diagnosis in low-carbon energy conversion processes, and introduced the broad prospects of advanced sensing technologies in energy conversion.

Marc A. Rosen, professor at Ontario Tech University in Canada, delivered a video presentation in which he elaborated on approaches to improving energy system efficiency and reducing environmental impact from an exergy analysis perspective.

The venue was filled with a strong academic atmosphere. After the presentations, Jidong Lu, Xiaoyuan Jing, and Guomin Chen presented certificates to the keynote speakers.


Oral Presentations and Graduate Student Forum: Youth Innovation Driving Disciplinary Development

The oral presentation sessions and graduate student forums were held simultaneously in different parallel venues in the afternoon.

In the oral presentation sessions, 14 scholars from Chaohu University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology reported their latest findings on topics such as new energy devices, smart energy systems, electricity markets, and intelligent control.

In the graduate student forums, more than 25 graduate students exchanged ideas on topics including catalytic new materials, process intensification in chemical engineering, intelligent diagnosis, and fault prediction. The sessions were marked by a strong academic atmosphere and lively discussion, fully demonstrating the innovative vitality of young researchers in the energy and chemical engineering fields.


Significance: Serving the National Energy Strategy and Advancing Discipline Building

The successful convening of this symposium not only provided a high-level academic exchange platform for experts and scholars in the fields of energy science and chemical engineering from China and abroad, but also demonstrated Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology’s positive achievements in building distinctive disciplines in energy and chemical engineering. The conference topics closely aligned with China’s “dual carbon” strategy and the demands of energy transition, injecting new momentum into the development of core technology breakthroughs and the deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application.
